Thou Shalt Not Degrade the Environment?

While there has been a flurry of interest in the Vatican’s designation of Pollution and Environmental Degradation as a sin – it seems that this is an overstatement by the media.

However, it does make for an interesting discussion, and protecting the environment is getting attention as a modern value.

“The Church continues to hold that sin is an act by an individual contrary to the will of God, that can be absolved after the sinner makes a valid confession. Critics have said that the idea of “social sin” such as “environmental degradation” is one for which no one individual can be held to account and that therefore becomes largely meaningless for the greater majority.

Scuba Product Recall

Titan DIN 1st Stage scuba regulators and Titan/Conshelf DIN scuba adaptors made by Aqua Lung USA – serial numbers lower than 6062501 stamped on the side of the body and marked “300 BAR MAX” on the side. Sold nationwide from January 1997 until October 2008.  Over-tightening of the DIN retainer during installation can cause it to break, and the regulator can detach from the scuba cylinder, posing a drowning hazard. The company has received one report of a retainer breaking. No injuries have been reported.  What to do: Call 877-253-3483 or go to www.aqualung.com or www.cpsc.gov

Mozart’s Requiem

The Cancun choir and orchestra’s presentation of Mozart’s Requiem on Saturday (Dia de los Muertos) was a very moving experience. The 300+ crowd was incredibly enthusiastic, giving standing ovations, and insisting on two encores. If you missed attending the program we are soon going to release a CD that will include highlights of the Requiem.

Saturday night we performed with full orchestra, however we are also singing two more concerts of just choir with piano accompaniment. They will be held in the church in the hotel zone, this Friday Nov 7th, and Friday Nov 21st, both at 8:30pm. Hope to see you there.
